Custom Courses

Why choose WMC for a custom course?first aid in north west territories

We feel that we can provide your group with an excellent wilderness first aid experience. Some of the main reasons include: We are the only company in Canada that has a physician as the Director and Lead instructor. Second, our instructors are extensively involved in wilderness activities so we really know what you need to know and we have an abundance of wilderness first aid experience. Third, we aim to keep our class sizes small so you get more individual teaching.

What courses do you offer?

We can provide any type of course you want. We have our existing courses that we offer or we can add to those existing courses. If needed we can build entirely new courses catered to your objectives.

How do I decide which course to book?

This is an individual decision. Generally speaking, people who spend a lot of time in the outdoors will take at least the 40 hr course. Those working in the outdoor industry usually take (and are often required) to take the 80 hr course. If you have an 80 hr wilderness first responder certificate that is less than three years old you are eligible for the recertification course.

How much does a custom course cost? What is included in the cost?

This depends on many factors. Some common factors include location (and how difficult it is to get to your location), how long the course is, how many instructors are required and what we need to provide (for example, if you provide the teaching space the cost will be less).

What is included in the cost is negotiable and we will discuss with you. Typically, the instructor fees, use ofall equipment, student manuals etc. is included.

What is not included in the cost? What am I responsible for?

Again, this is variable and we discuss it with you. Typically, you are responsible for providing a teaching space (eg. conference room or classroom), travel expenses to and from your location and room and board while we are there.

What type of facility is required to run a custom course?mountain rescue helicopter

We need to have a classroom for the theory part of the course that is large enough for the number of students in your group. We also require access to some “green space” for the outdoor portions of the course. This is pretty flexible and can be as simple as a park but we like to have it close by so we don’t have to spend a lot of time traveling back and forth.

How far in advance do I need to book a custom course?

This depends on the time of year. The busiest times are spring and fall so we would recommend booking as far in advance as possible (typically, at least 6 months). In the winter we generally have more free time. We don’t run courses very often in the summer since summer is short in Canada and most people want to enjoy their free time and are not so interested in taking courses then!

How do I book a custom course? When do I have to pay?

After you read through the above and reviewed our website, please feel free to contact us by phone or email and we can discuss your course proposal with you and provide a quote. Alternatively you can download our Custom Course Booking form and fax or email it us. To hold the time for your course we require a 10% deposit.
